Face the Music Foundation is excited to announce that we are officially co-sponsoring Sober Jam – Austin. FTMF will be partnering with the Recording Academy/MusiCares, the SIMS Foundation and DeMaris Productions to bring quality sober music to Austin. Once a month for the past 12 years, Sober Jam – Austin has provided musicians in recovery with a safe, substance-free and supportive environment to perform, network and be inspired by one another. Face the Music Foundation is exceedingly proud to be part of this amazing event, and we look forward to supporting the creative sober community in Austin for many years to come.

As an organization driven by music in all forms, Face the Music Foundation is acutely aware of how important it is for musicians in recovery to have a safe and supportive environment in which they’re free to create their art and showcase it to their peers without being by confront by drugs or alcohol. The treatment and recovery process may diminish the compulsion to engage in substance use; but it doesn’t extinguish the artistic flame, or the need create. Unfortunately, music scenes, specifically those in urban areas such as Austin, are often tied to excessive drug and alcohol use; Sober Jam is looking to reverse this trend.

Launched in partnership with Gibson Guitars in Austin, Texas, in 2005, the MusiCares Sober Jam provides musicians with an opportunity to musically express themselves by performing in a safe sober environment. The event is held on the last Monday of every month from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The June 28 installment will feature Doraville and Target Practice. The event is open to those who would like to attend or perform and is free of charge. Sober Jam represents an equal-opportunity and sober atmosphere in which musicians can be themselves and bare their musical souls to audiences and fellow members of their artistic community.
