The MusiCares® Sober Jam is a monthly event presented by Face the Music, offering musicians an opportunity to perform in a safe and sober environment. This event would not be possible without the ongoing support of our sponsors, MusiCares, Face the Music, the SIMS Foundation and Gibson Guitar.
The Sober Jam is held at The North Door and begins at 6pm with an open jam, allowing guests time to arrive, mingle and find their way to a seat. Musicians are also encouraged to join in the jam on-stage!
At 7pm, the space transitions to a listening room with “open-mic” style performances (solo or with a band), facilitated by emcee Debbie Stanley of DeMaris Entertainment. Each event includes an unannounced special guest performer.
All attendees — both on and off-stage — are considered to be active participants in the Sober Jam. By simply showing up, listening to the music, and offering an applause between songs, each guest plays a meaningful role in creating a safe environment for the performers.
The MusiCares Sober Jam was founded in 2006 as a partnership between MusiCares and Gibson Guitar, produced by Brandon DeMaris of DeMaris Entertainment. Over the past decade, the event has featured hundreds of local musicians facing stage fright & performance anxiety, many of whom performed for the first time ever and/or for the first time sober at the Sober Jam.
