SUMMARY:Face the Music Foundation Benefit Concert
DESCRIPTION:May 1\, 2019 – dkmedia and Charity Bomb are proud to announce the Face The Music Benefit Concert. Featuring a headlining performance from multi-platinum recording artist Garbage with support from The Jam Alker Band and Slow Mass and a very special appearance by Richard Patrick (Filter)\, the Face The Music Benefit Concert will take place on Monday\, May 20th at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago\, IL. This special event will be donating 100% of proceeds to the Face The Music Foundation. The Foundation provides immense financial support including patient scholarships for Recovery Unplugged\, a Rehabilitation Treatment Center whose mission is to provide hope and healing for individuals affected by addiction using the power of music. Tickets are on-sale now at RivieraTheatre.com. \nOn the decision to put together this very special concert\, David Kinsler of dkmedia shares that “After I had the unique opportunity to tour the Ft. Lauderdale Recovery Unplugged facility and engage with the facilitators and staff in the home office and the treatment center\, it was clearly visible that the leadership and medical direction lives and breathes what they preach and stand for. They have a keen sense of treating every client with empathy\, compassion and a refreshing\, non-judgmental approach. Sound therapy\, progressive behavioral modalities and the integration of therapeutic lessons surrounded with music and exercises are what I observed during my visits. It confirmed inside of me that ‘Music truly does\, make the difference\,’ in helping people transform their lives into sobriety.” \nRecovery Unplugged is the first and only addiction care organization in the world that fully uses music in addiction treatment. They combine traditional elements of treatment with innovative\, proven and effective techniques that allow clients to work music into addiction recovery allowing them to break down emotional barriers and address the root causes of their substance use disorder in ways traditional talk therapy often can’t. For more information on Recovery Unplugged\, please visit https://www.recoveryunplugged.com/. \nFace The Music Foundation encourages awareness about addiction and recovery through information based outreach\, fundraising events\, and social media. Executive Director Jeff Jacobs shares that “We believe that by erasing the stigma associated with the third largest cause of accidental death in the United States\, it becomes easier for recovery-based resources to be accessible for anyone who needs them.” For more information on Face The Music\, please visit www.facethemusic.org.

SUMMARY:Giving Tuesday
DESCRIPTION:Face The Music has joined GivingTuesday\, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals\, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. GivingTuesday is a chance for people to give back by making a donation to their favorite nonprofit organization(s) and then spreading the word of their gift to family and friends. \nWe will be selling a 10 song compilation album for $5.00 that all goes to giving scholarships toward treatment for people without the means to do so themselves. The compilation is completely written and recorded by the clients of Recovery Unplugged. The songs are all written about their struggles with addiction\, and how the disease has affected their life. \nClick Here to Donate Now! \nThere are families all over the country who are affected by the disease of addiction\, with family members struggling and in desperate need of treatment. Many addicts do not even know that a life of recovery is possible. If there ever was a time to give back to the less fortunate\, this is certainly that time. Everybody deserves a chance to live a happy and free life with the people who love them. Click Here to give the gift that someone can have for the rest of their life. The Face the Music foundation wants to thank you for your support and wishes you all to have a safe and happy holiday! \n

SUMMARY:Sober Jam Presented By Face the Music
DESCRIPTION:The MusiCares® Sober Jam is a monthly event presented by Face the Music\, offering musicians an opportunity to perform in a safe and sober environment. This event would not be possible without the ongoing support of our sponsors\, MusiCares\, Face the Music\, the SIMS Foundation and Gibson Guitar. \nThe Sober Jam is held at The North Door and begins at 6pm with an open jam\, allowing guests time to arrive\, mingle and find their way to a seat. Musicians are also encouraged to join in the jam on-stage! \nAt 7pm\, the space transitions to a listening room with “open-mic” style performances (solo or with a band)\, facilitated by emcee Debbie Stanley of DeMaris Entertainment. Each event includes an unannounced special guest performer. \nAll attendees — both on and off-stage — are considered to be active participants in the Sober Jam. By simply showing up\, listening to the music\, and offering an applause between songs\, each guest plays a meaningful role in creating a safe environment for the performers. \nThe MusiCares Sober Jam was founded in 2006 as a partnership between MusiCares and Gibson Guitar\, produced by Brandon DeMaris of DeMaris Entertainment. Over the past decade\, the event has featured hundreds of local musicians facing stage fright & performance anxiety\, many of whom performed for the first time ever and/or for the first time sober at the Sober Jam. \nFor more information about this event or to inquire about getting involved\, please email info@demarisentertainment.com. \n

SUMMARY:FED UP Rally 2018
DESCRIPTION:The FED UP! Coalition was formed in 2012 when several organizations from across the country joined forces. What brought us together was our shared concern that the federal government was failing to stem the rising tide of opioid addiction and overdose deaths. We were especially frustrated with the failure of FDA to correct a mistake in the Controlled Substances Act which had misclassified drugs containing hydrocodone as Schedule III (instead of Schedule II where they belong) and by FDA’s approval of a steady stream of dangerous new opioids. \nOur first rally was held on Capitol Hill in the fall of 2013\, about nine months after the FDA’s scientific advisory committee had voted in favor of moving hydrocodone combination products into the Schedule II category. We were especially FED UP that after 10 years of blocking the DEA’s effort to up-schedule hydrocodone products\, FDA was continuing to stall by failing to act on the recommendation of its advisory committee. Many of the speakers at the FED UP! Rally\, including a prominent group of Bi-partisan members of Congress\, such as Chairman Hal Rogers\, Senator Chuck Schumer and Senator Joe Manchin\, urged the FDA to listen to its scientists and some even promised to call for an investigation of FDA. \nThree weeks after our rally\, the FDA finally announced that it would support up-scheduling. We believe that was it not for FED UP!’s effort\, FDA may have gone against the recommendation of its scientific advisors- which is exactly what FDA did when it approved Zohydro\, an easily crushed high dose hydrocodone product. \nThe second FED UP! Rally was held on the Washington Mall in 2014 and included a march to the White House. Many speakers at the rally criticized the Obama administration for ignoring the worsening epidemic of opioid addiction and overdose deaths and for the weak and ineffective response from some of his agencies. On the day after the rally a small group met with the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy to directly share their concerns with the Director\, Michael Botticelli. Several weeks after the rally\, for the very first time\, the White House announced that it would seek $133 million in federal funding to assist states and counties in tackling the epidemic. Considering the magnitude of the crisis\, $133 million was a shamefully small figure\, but at least was a start. Without the efforts of FED UP! and the thousands who rallied and marched to the White House that fall\, this small but significant achievement may not have occurred. \n \n
